The reverse of the new issue honors Benjamin Franklin, a scientist, inventor and a statesman. In his long life before and after the American Revolution that included roles as one of America’s Founding Fathers, a diplomat and a publisher, Franklin invented the lightening rod and a battery for storing electrical charges. He brought innovation to such everyday items as a stove that created more heat and less smoke than an open fireplace and bifocal reading glasses, plus he originated an odometer and the glass armonica music instrument. The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II.
