On December 21, 1968, the Apollo 8 spacecraft carrying 3 astronauts blasted off headed to the moon. This trio became the first to ride aboard the gigantic Saturn V rocket, the first to leave earth’s gravity, and the first to travel 234,000 miles and orbit the moon. Now celebrate this momentous achievement with Ghana’s 2 Cedis Uncirculated coin that marks the 50th anniversary of the first mission to the moon.
The handsome bi-colored titanium coin features the iconic “earthrise” shot taken by Astronaut Bill Anders on Christmas Eve 1968, the Apollo 8 module and its orbital path. The other side shows Queen Elizabeth II.
