In 1986, the Silver American Eagle dollar series made its debut. Authorized by President Ronald Reagan, these spectacular U.S. dollars are prized around the world for their 99.9% pure silver content and hefty 1 oz. size. The obverses feature the famous Liberty Walking design, used on half dollars of 1916-1947, while the reverses feature John Mercanti’s Heraldic Eagle design that has graced the series since it began.
In honor of the series’ 35th anniversary this year, a new reverse design featuring a soaring eagle will debut later in 2021 – marking the end of the original reverse. To celebrate the occasion, we’re offering this 2-coin set featuring the first-year coin from 1986 and the first 2021 Silver Eagle – last with the original heraldic eagle design.
