1941 No AW Initials variety – to date, NGC has certified a total of just 301 coins in the Proof grades offered here. Though 1941 Proofs had a total mintage of just 15,412 pieces, among those was this variety missing the AW initials of coin designer Adolph A. Weinman. While those initials appeared below the eagle’s wings on the reverse of some 1941 Proofs, the dies for this “No AW” initials variety were highly polished, and the initials were inadvertently removed. We have just five available.
