The year 1940 featured such popular U.S. coinage designs as sculptor A. A. Weinman`s celebrated Liberty Walking motif on the 50¢ piece. The obverse of the coin bears a full-length figure of Liberty, her right arm outstretched in bestowal of the spirit of freedom, while the reverse depicts an eagle perched upon a mountain crag. Struck in 90% fine silver at the San Francisco Mint, the 1940-S Liberty Walking half dollar is a historic keepsake of pre-World War II America.
