Own America’s last territorial silver coin – issued from 1937-1945 for the Philippines when this island country was a U.S. possession. During WWII, millions of these coins were melted for bullion or dumped into the sea to avoid seizure by Imperial Japan. Struck in 75% silver, the now hard-to-find 20-centavo coins feature Liberty on the obverse, striking an anvil with a hammer – symbolic of the Philippines breaking the chains of Spanish tyranny and occupation. In the background is Mt. Mayon, an active volcano. The reverse motif depicts a shield and eagle, while inside the rim is inscribed: united states of america Great addition to a WWII or world coin collection!
