Constantine IV ruled the Byzantines through their victory during the first great Muslim siege of Constantinople, from 674-678. At the time, this was considered a victory for all of Western Europe, which was preserved from being overwhelmed by the powerful Arab armies. Upon his death in 685, Constantine's son, Justinian II, was named emperor.
