Customer Reviews
Born of peasant stock, Justinian I rose to become one of the greatest rulers of the Byzantine Empire, where he remained for nearly four decades. As emperor, he tried to restore the Roman territory lost to invaders in the 5th century. His achievements include the codification of Roman law and the restoration of the Hagia Sophia church - both of which are still in use today.
