Flavius Honorius was born in A.D. 384, the second son of Theodosius I and Aelia Flacilla. He was made Augustus by his father in 393, and two years later, he became emperor of the Western Roman Empire. Honorius was a weak ruler, allowing his generals, ministers, and even his sisters to run the empire. This was the beginning of the end of the empire. Honorius died in 423. Imagine owning a gold coin struck from nearly pure gold, and issued 1,600 years ago. Unlike the mass-produced coins of today, this gold piece was individually hand minted, so it is unique and there will never be another exactly like it!
