From the years A.D. 276-282, comes this ancient bronze silvered Antoninianus featuring the portrait of Emperor Probus, "Restorer of the World." Probus, known for his honesty and courage, rose through the ranks of the Roman army until he was named emperor. During his reign, he tirelessly defended Rome`s borders and "restored" safe travel for all of Rome`s citizens. A great leader, he introduced Roman troops to community service, building roads and planting vineyards. However, his soldiers soon grew tired of civilian projects and Probus was murdered by his own troops. This 1,700-year-old coin offers an affordable way to add an ancient from the Roman Empire to your collection.
