These elusive coins bear the image of Macrianus, son of Macrianus Fulvius, one of many usurpers who claimed the title of emperor during the chaotic times that followed the capture of Valerian. Macrianus senior's two sons, Macrianus and Quietus, were named co-emperors with their father and drove the Persians from the eastern territories. But when the Macriani tried to advance on Rome, they were killed by guards who remained loyal to Valerian.
