A victory that left the British Empire in shock, the Battle of Sullivan’s Island was a significant early win for the American colonists’ cause. The latest 2025 release features Colonel William Moultrie waving a Liberty flag from the walls of Fort Sullivan while American and British ships are shown in the background. Taking place just outside of Charleston, South Carolina, the British attempted to capture the partially built fort on June 28, 1776. However due to Colonel Moultrie’s diligence, the Royal British Navy was defeated in battle. The victory allowed the colonists to secure not only the fort but also the city of Charleston, which allowed them to maintain control of both for the next four years.

Issued with a Prooflike finish and encapsulated, these half dollars are legal tender for the island nation of Niue. The common obverse displays an American bald eagle and the Niue seal.
