Customer Reviews

This 2018 set in the popular Native American series honors the Abenaki Nation, one of the Algonquin-speaking peoples who once lived throughout northeastern North America. Their villages were located on the fertile floodplains of rivers which provided ideal growing conditions for a largely plant-based diet of squash, corn and beans.

The reverse of this particular coin set features a tent marked with iconic imagery. Stylized sunbeams radiate behind it. The obverse of this Uncirculated 6-coin set highlights activities uniquely associated with Abenaki daily life:

  • 1¢ Toboggan – used to carry goods and people
  • 5¢ Wild Pigeon (mourning dove) – hunted as food
  • 10¢ Boiling Maple Syrup – maple tree sap was reduced into syrup or sugar and used as sweetener
  • 25¢ Tribesman Paddling Canoe – most frequently used mode of transportation
  • 50¢ Bobcat – hunted for their beautiful fur
  • $1 Abenaki Tribesman

Officially recognized as a sovereign nation by the U.S. government, the Jamul tribe is legally authorized to issue its own commemorative coins, including this handsome set honoring the Abenaki people. It is limited in mintage to 25,000. Attractively priced, it comes in a colorfully illustrated display card with a certificate of authenticity. Order today!
