Commemorates the 350th anniversary of a colony sponsored by Sir Walter Raleigh; Roanoke Island, North Carolina. Sir Walter Raleigh is featured on the obverse while Ellinor Dare and her baby, Virginia, are on the reverse. Virginia was the first baby born of English parents on the American continent. Also known as the lost colony, in 1590 the island was visited to find that all inhabitants were missing. No one knows what really happened to Ellinor Dare, Virginia, and the rest of the colony.
