1916-S Mercury Dime

The 90% silver Mercury dime met with widespread approval when introduced in 1916. Designed by noted sculptor A. A. Weinman, the obverse depicts Liberty wearing a winged cap to signify liberty of thought. The reverse features fasces, symbolizing strength and preparedness. An intertwining olive branch stood for the country`s love of peace. The 1916-S Mercury Dime, struck at the San Francisco Mint, is prized as the first year of issue for the series.
