These stunning, early 20th-century commemoratives in 90% gold were issued by the San Francisco Mint for the 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition that celebrated the opening of the Panama Canal. Designed by Charles Keck, the $1 gold coins profile a canal worker on the obverse. Two dolphins encircle the words one dollar on the reverse, and only 15,000 were distributed.
