Customer Reviews

This unique half eagle coin motif was created more than a century ago by Bela Lyon Pratt, who chose to sink or “incuse” the coin’s designs below the surfaces.

During the Great Depression, President Roosevelt issued the Gold Recall Order of 1933, making gold illegal to own. Thousands of collectors gave up historic gold coins, which were melted (especially the smaller denominations), making them a challenge to find. This 1915-S issue from San Francisco had a mintage of just 164,000 to begin with – so we can only guess how many still exist today. In nicely detailed Extra Fine condition after more than 100 years!
