If any designer deserved his name on a coin, it was numismatist Victor David Brenner, whose powerful portrait of President Abraham Lincoln graces the Lincoln cent. But a furor erupted after Brenner's initials appeared too prominently on the reverse of the 1909 Lincoln cent, and they were quickly removed.

The San Francisco Mint began the year striking Indian Head cents. Next came the controversial 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln cent, and finally, the 1909-S issues without Brenner's initials. These last cents were issued near year's end, so less than two million were minted. Today, collectors covet these scarce low-mintage 1909-S cents. But our supply is limited, so reserve yours today.
