The year 1909 was a historic one for U.S. cents because two different designs were struck that year!

  • 1909 Indian Head Cent – last year of the beautiful Indian Head series, and only struck in limited quantities until replaced by the Lincoln cent midway through the year. Its reverse features two oak branches, symbols of strength and independence.
  • 1909 Lincoln Cent – struck during the first year of the Lincoln series to replace the “scandalous” 1909 V.D.B. Lincoln cent, this cent doesn’t bear the initials of designer Victor D. Brenner. Issued to honor the 100th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth, its reverse features a pair of wheat ears to symbolize abundance.

Each historic cent was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, comes in a protective holder and makes a great addition to a collection. Together, they are a must-have 1909 transition set of coins that is popular with collectors. Don’t delay – order right away!
