Sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt designed the Indian Head $5 gold coin of 1908-1929 with an unprecedented incuse design. The elements of the design are recessed in the coin`s surface, rather than raised above the surface. The obverse depicts an Indian chief, while the reverse features a proud eagle. The first-year-of-issue 1908 Indian Head $5 gold coin was produced during the year the first Model T Ford rolled off the assembly line in Detroit.
