The 1903-S Liberty Head $5 gold pieces (or half eagles) were struck over a century ago at the San Francisco Mint and bear the distinctive "S" mint mark. On May 23 of their year of mintage, a Packard automobile left San Francisco and 52 days later arrived in New York City - the first continental crossing by an automobile entirely using its own power. The 1903-S $5 Liberty Head will be a prized remembrance of the early 20th century.
