The historic Liberty Head $5 gold coins struck in 1900 are treasured keepsakes from the transition of the 19th to the 20th century. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, these coins feature a classic portrait of Liberty which adorned U.S. $5 gold pieces for 70 years from 1839 to 1908. The reverse depicts an eagle with a shield on its breast, perched on an olive branch and clutching three arrows. The motto "in God we trust" was added to the reverse in 1866.
