The main U.S. Mint in Philadelphia produced over 1.3 million Liberty Head $5 gold pieces (or half eagles) in 1895. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, these coins bear a classic and popular portrait of Liberty, adorned with a coronet inscribed liberty. The reverse features an eagle with a shield on its breast, and the motto "in God we trust" on a banner above. The denomination of this collector favorite is stated as "Five D." on the reverse.
