As the 1892 Liberty Head nickel was being produced at the Philadelphia Mint, a Colorado gold rush was underway at Cripple Creek near Pike`s Peak. The expression "Pike`s Peak or Bust" came from intrepid gold seekers journeying to Colorado from all parts of the country; by 1900, Cripple Creek would have over 50,000 residents, dozens of mining companies, and over 100 saloons! The 1892 Liberty Head nickel is a prized keepsake of this historic era.
