1873-CC Trade Silver Dollar

Get an elusive Trade silver dollar from the first or last year of regular-issue production! These briefly minted heavier 90% silver dollars were introduced in 1873 for trade in the Orient. Only 124,500 Trade dollars were struck at Carson City in their first year of 1873 (2nd lowest regular issue mintage). Nearly the entire 1873-CC production went to the Orient where most were “chop marked” by banks to certify their silver content. We have one scarcer 1873-CC issue without chop marks available as well.

Trade dollars were last struck for commerce in 1878, when just 97,000 coins were minted at Carson City. In July of that year, nearly half the 1878-CC’s were apparently melted for coinage of Morgan dollars that debuted in 1878. According to expert Q.
