Liberty Seated half dollars were minted from 1838 to 1891 in 90% fine silver, and the 1872 half dollar was produced at the main U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. The obverse side of the coin portrays Liberty seated upon a rock. She holds in her left hand a liberty cap on a pole, and her right hand rests upon a shield inscribed liberty. The reverse depicts an eagle perched on an olive branch and clutching 3 arrows. The 1872 half dollar is a prized memento of 19th-century America.
