1864-1869 3¢ Fractional Note

Due to widespread hoarding of coins during the Civil War era, Congress authorized the printing of fractional currency notes (with values less than a dollar) from 1862-1876. This historic 3¢ note is from the 1864-1869 Third Issue of fractional currency. The face of the short-lived 3¢ note depicts George Washington, while the back carries a large numeral 3 and the statement of obligation to accept as U.S. currency. This authentic Civil War souvenir is in great demand among collectors.
