Designed by Christian Gobrecht, and struck in pure copper, Braided Hair half cents of 1840-1857 are precious keepsakes of mid-19th century America. The obverse of the coin depicts Liberty wearing a coronet, surrounded by 13 stars representing the original colonies. The reverse features a continuous wreath surrounding the denomination, with the official name of the country inscribed around the border.
