1760-1786 Continental/Colonial Currency

Coins were scarce in colonial America, so the original colonies and Vermont issued colonial currency from 1690 until the ratification of the U.S. Constitution. After, England’s success at keeping gold and silver out of its rebellious colonies forced the new United States government to issue its first currency – Continental notes.

Used at the birth of our nation 247 years ago, each note is hand signed, and denominations range from less than $1 to $40 (our choice unless otherwise stated).
