10¢ Fractional Currency Note

The 1862-1863 First Issue of fractional currency is often called postage currency. Coin hoarding during the Civil War prompted Congress to authorize acceptance of postage stamps as currency. But then all the stamps disappeared! So small denomination notes that looked like stamps were circulated in 1862-1863. This short-lived First Issue 10¢ note, with green face and black back, features perforated edges and a depiction of the George Washington stamp of the era. A prized Civil War collectible!
