The Roman Empire was in crisis. When the Persians raided the ancient city of Antioch, the generals in the east decided to fight back. They made the aged officer Macrianus emperor. He accepted, provided his two sons Macrianus and Quietus became co-emperors. Together they drove the Persians from the eastern territories. But when Macrianus, father and son, tried to advance on Rome, they were killed. Quietus was slain by the townspeople of Emesa.
