A.D. 217-218 Macrinus Silver Denarius

The first non-senator emperor Macrinus is featured on the obverse of this silver denarius. Although he was of unimpeachable character, Macrinus lacked talent in government and military affairs. His attempts to appease the Romans met with failure. When a blundered military campaign against the Parthians cost him 200 million sestertii, he lost the army's support. In 218, rebels defeated and killed him.
