Get the special issue "S" mint mark Proof from San Francisco. The one-year-only reverse design is a tribute to Sequoyah – who developed the Cherokee syllabary – a table of syllables that made reading and writing in Cherokee possible. Adopted by the Cherokee people in 1825, their tribal literacy quickly surpassed that of European settlers in the Southeast. The design shows Sequoyah writing "Sequoyah from Cherokee Nation" on the perimeter of the coin with a feather pen.
