The 1928 $20 gold piece (or double eagle) was struck in precious 90% fine gold at the main U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. Designed by the world-famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the 1928 double eagle features a magnificent striding Liberty on the obverse, with sun rays in the background. The reverse depicts a proud eagle in flight, with the sun and rays behind. The motto in god we trust is seen in an arc along the edge of the sun.
