The Liberty Seated design found on U.S. quarters of 1838-1891 is also seen on half dimes, dimes, half dollars, and dollars of the era. Created by U.S. Mint engraver Christian Gobrecht, this widely used motif depicts Liberty seated on a rock. She holds a liberty cap on a pole in her left hand, and her right hand rests on a shield. Thirteen stars representing the original colonies surround Liberty, and the date is found below. The 1876-CC silver quarter was struck at the short-lived Carson City Mint in Nevada.
