As a youth of 14, Elagabalus came from the Middle East, bringing to Rome an oriental religion, of which he was a priest. This religion, along with his extravagances and his inability to fit in with Roman society and customs, made him unpopular. After being dragged through the streets of Rome, his body was thrown into a sewer.
