Bearing the popular "S" mint mark of San Francisco, the 1898-S Morgan silver dollar is a precious remembrance of America's largest western city during the latter 1800s.
- Struck in 90% silver
- The San Francisco Mint struck just 4.1 million silver dollars in 1898, and many went directly into storage.
- But in the 1920s, large numbers of bags were paid out and the coins were released into circulation.
- Then, in the 1940s & 1950s, more bags were released. The coins were widely dispersed, with many being used in Nevada casinos.
- By the time of the great 1962-64 treasury release of stored silver dollars, most 1898-S Morgans were gone
