Morgan Silver (1878-1921)
When Liberty Seated silver dollars were discontinued in 1873, western silver miners went to work protecting their interests. As a result, 90% silver Morgan dollars were first minted in 1878, after a lapse of five years in the production of circulating silver dollars. Featuring a beautiful depiction of Liberty on the obverse, these coins became known as Morgan dollars after their designer, George T. Morgan. Originally struck from 1878-1904, Morgan dollars were issued one last time in 1921.
