A.D. 253-268 Gallienus Silver Billon
Description
Gallienus began rule with his father Valerian at age 35. When his father was taken captive by the Persians in A.D. 260, he became emperor of Rome. Gibbons describes him as a genius, but with no interest in the military or government. Because of this lack, a series of rebellions broke out. Gallienus tried to stop the Empire from disintegrating, but wasn't strong enough. He was killed by his own soldiers in A.D. 268.
