The 1880 Liberty Head $10 gold piece (or eagle) was struck over 125 years ago at the Philadelphia Mint - the longest established U.S. Mint facility and birthplace of America`s coinage. The long-running Liberty Head eagle series of 1838-1907 was designed by Christian Gobrecht. The obverse depicts Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed liberty. The reverse features an eagle with a shield on its breast. The motto "in God we trust" was added to the reverse in 1866.
