When introduced in 1875, the 20¢ piece was too similar in size and design to the quarter and was easily confused. So after just two years of circulation, and production at San Francisco only in 1875, the 20¢ denomination was discontinued (except for a few 1877-1878 Proofs). Twenty cent pieces on hand at the mints were soon melted down. Now, over 135 years later, the 90% silver 20¢ piece is scarce and in great demand among collectors! These genuine examples of the only San Francisco issue are among the few survivors, and offer an affordable way to own these century-old collector favorites. Each 1875-S coin comes in a FREE custom holder and display box for gift presentation – order today!
