Struck for circulation for two short years only, the Flying Eagles of 1857 & 1858 are in demand today as prized collectibles! These are America’s first small-size cents, struck to replace the unpopular U.S. large cents.

Designed by James B. Longacre, the Flying Eagle cent displays our national emblem; the bald eagle. According to legend, during the Revolutionary War, the sounds of battle attracted eagles that shrieked as they circled above the soldiers’ heads in the colonial army. The patriots thought the birds were urging them to fight for freedom, and so the eagle became our official symbol in 1782.

Now you can own one of America’s first small-size cents displayed in our exclusive Showpak® holder! These coins don’t meet industry grading standards, but are a popular, affordable way to add elusive older issues to your collection. Supplies of these collector favorites are limited – get yours right away.
