Philadelphia Mint

This rare 1916 Type 1 Standing Liberty quarter is a coveted first-year issue and key date few can hope to acquire. But now, one fortunate collector can! It bears sculptor A.A. Weinman’s original design, which was modified partway through the following year when Liberty’s breast was covered with chain mail. A mere 52,000 pieces were struck during the final two weeks of 1916, but not released until January of 1917 – and it’s estimated today that just 10,000 pieces survive in all grades.

The 1916 Type 1 is the lowest mintage issue in the Standing Liberty quarter series, and one of the lowest mintage of all 20th century U.S. coins issued for circulation – earning it the #59 ranking in 100 Greatest U.S. Coins. Showing nice details after more than a century, the appealing hand-selected example offered here has been graded Extra Fine 40 by our experts and certified by PCGS. With high collector demand across all grades, this is an affordable way to add an important rarity to your collection. It’s one coin you’ll be proud to own for years to come.
