A.D. 337-361 Constantius II Bronze Centenionalis, Fallen Horseman Reverse

Through military skill and devotion to duty, Constantius II (a son of Constantine the Great) became the sole ruler of the Roman Empire. Skirmishes with the Persians, border raids by the barbarians and uprisings among the legions plagued his reign. The reverse of this bronze coin shows a Roman soldier advancing, spearing a fallen enemy on horseback. This motif is known as the fallen horseman.
