This is a beautiful Proof 63 example of the first small cent, a coin that is legendary among U.S. coin collectors. Its reflective surfaces are graced with a colorful scheme of reddish tan, blue, and peachy pink on the obverse, while the reverse is browner than toned. All details are nicely defined, and the surfaces are spot-free and smooth. Consensus of how many coins were produced this year varies slightly, with total mintage estimated between 1,500 and 2,500 specimens. The famous Flying Eagle type was a short-lived one, minted only through 1858. A truly beautiful piece of history that only a few collectors can hope to acquire.
