When you say “scarce dates,” most collectors think of the 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln, but there are two other very desirable cent issues – the low-mintage 1908-S and ’09-S Indian Head cents! This set of scarce dates is a “must” for every collector! In 1908, San Francisco struck the first ever “S” Mint cents! Because production didn’t begin until November 27th of that year, only 1.1 million Indian Heads were struck, creating the 3rd lowest mintage of the series!
Then the following year, the 1909-S became the lowest mintage of the entire Indian Head cent series! Only 309,000 last-year coins were struck at San Francisco before being replaced by the Lincoln cent. When compared to the 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln, the mintage of this Indian cent is lower by nearly 175 thousand, and much more affordable! The 1908-S & ’09-S Indian cents bear the only mint marks in the series and are needed by every collector hoping to complete a collection or to own prized key-date coins! These sets are limited, so don’t wait to order!
