Here’s an unusual opportunity to own a two-coin 10 Marks set struck in 62.5% silver to commemorate the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany. The obverse common to both coins is the central eagle motif with deutschland at the top and the denomination at the bottom. The initial reverse, however, also featured deutschland instead of the host city. Once the error was identified, the coin design was changed by replacing deutschland with münchen, and is offered here in this set.

The host city’s name graces part of the spiral-ray design that symbolized the radiant spirit of the games. Subsequently marred by terrorist tragedy, the 1972 Olympics is also remembered for the 7 gold medals won and 7 world records set in a single competition by California-born swimmer Mark Spitz. Coins come with informational story cards. Great chance to add to an Olympics or silver collection. Order today.
