This Choice Proof Set of two National Park quarters honors the 75th anniversary of WWII battles on Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean.
The War in the Pacific National Historical Park on Guam was established in 1978. It pays tribute to the bravery, courage, and sacrifice of combatants and civilians involved in the bloody battle to end 31 months of Imperial Japanese occupation following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The reverse shows American troops landing at Asan Bay to liberate Guam.
The American Memorial Park on Saipan, the largest of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, is featured on the reverse of the second quarter in this set. It shows a young woman in traditional dress at the front of the Flag Circle and Court of Honor. There, 26 granite panels are inscribed with the names of 5,204 U.S. service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in a grueling battle to wrest control of this strategic island from the Japanese.
Each Choice Proof quarter was struck at the San Francisco Mint, and comes encapsulated in a deluxe holder with a special anniversary label. Together, they are packaged in a protective ‘story vault’ that enhances their commemorative status and makes for a handsome gift for military and history collectors. Affordably priced, don’t delay placing your order.
