This special purchase of desirable large cents won’t last! Thanks to a recent opportunity presented to us, we are excited to match these popular, hand-punched varieties – upright 5 and slanting 5 – in this exclusive offer. The two-coin set pairs the legacy of master engraver Christian Gobrecht, who designed the traditional upright 5, and his successor, James B. Longacre, who favored the slanting, or italicized, 5. Slightly larger than modern quarters, they were among the last large cents to be minted in Philadelphia because of copper’s rising price. Thousands were melted a year later to produce a much smaller cent. You can buy this distinctive set of 1856 Braided Hair coins only while the limited supply lasts.
