Struck in 50% silver over 50 years ago, this Uncirculated 10¢ South Africa coin was minted during anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela's arrest, trial and imprisonment for attempting to overthrow the South African government. Mandela was released after serving 27 years in prison, and in 1994 became South Africa's first black president as a result of the country's first multiracial elections.
The obverse of this handsome 10¢ coin depicts Jan van Riebeeck, the Dutch founder of Cape Town, and the bilingual inscription UNITY IS STRENGTH. The reverse features a female figure leaning on a large anchor and the denomination stated as 10 C. Recall one of the world's most revered civil rights leaders with this historic Uncirculated silver coin over 50 years old!
